Ever thought to visit a historical place which is near to Bangalore. For any history or architecture buff, Mysore, the former capital of the Kingdom of Mysore, is one of the best tourist destinations which is near to Bangalore.

Mysore is home for many Indo-Saracenic architectures that are from the Hoysala Empire to the Vijayanagara Empire. Which leaves visitors speechless for a moment. 

Somanatha Temple which is over a mile from Mysore palace exhibiting the finest of Dravidian style architecture, the city is filled with historical places to explore.

     
Also, Mysore is famous for its traditional cuisine, Markets which sells beautiful silk sarees, Sandalwood, and species. So if you are likely to steep into the tremendous cultural shades of the region, Plan a trip to Mysore.

Besides, Mysore is also home to huge fitness lovers who want to learn Yoga. The Mysore style of asana practice is the way of teaching yoga as an exercise within the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga tradition as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore; its fame has made that city a yoga hub with substantial yoga tourism.

Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery and Auditorium, Railway Museum Somanatha Temple, Mysore Zoo, St.Philomena Cathedral, Chamundeshwari Temple, Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary and Brindavan Garden. 

Things to do in Mysore: 
Visiting Royal Palace of Mysore and Mysore Zoo, Take a walk in the Brindavan Garden, Visting the Ranganthittu bird sanctuary and witnessing the whole city from Chamundi hill viewpoint. 

Entry Fees and Ticket price: 
Mysore palace - ₹70 for adults for children's price may vary.
Mysore Zoo     - ₹100 for adults for children's prices may vary.
Bus pass         - ₹50 for one whole day. I would recommend you to use public transport.
Camera allowance charge inside Mysore zoo - ₹100
Jaganmohan Art Gallery - ₹25
Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary - ₹50 for Indians, ₹300 for foreigners.
Railway Museum - ₹15
Brindavan Gardens - ₹15, timings (6:00 AM - 8:00PM)

Best time to visit Mysore:
Between July to March also I would recommend you to visit during Dassera so you can witness the Jambu safari.

Ideal weekend duration:
One or two days.

Where to stay:
International Youth Hostel Mysore - 270 per day, shared dorms with clean bathrooms and hot water availability, I stayed 2 days in this hostel.

How to reach:
By Air: Mysore Airport is very near to the city center (12 Kms) and well connected to all cities of the country.
By Road: Mysore is 145Km from Bangalore. You can reach Mysore from Bangalore Government Bus station ticket would cost ₹260 - 300 for one way ride. 
By Train: The nearest train station is the Mysore city Railway Station (MYS).
The train ticket price is ₹70 unreserved tickets. I took the train from Bangalore Railway station (SBC) at 7:00 in the morning which would reach Mysore at 9:30AM.
